In attempt to address the problems of HIV/AIDS, fastest population growth and youth
reproductive health problems, People to People USA along with its sister organization
People to People Aid organization Canada secured funding from Packard Foundation
population program with a reference number 2007-31489 to run a project entitled
" Mobilizing the Diaspora through a Youth center in Addis Ababa."
The project entitled “Mobilizing the Diaspora through a youth center in Addis Ababa”
is a three year project (17-Aug-2007 to 16-Aug-2010) aimed at slowing down the rate
of population growth and HIV incidence among youth in Addis Ababa of ages between
15-30 years. The project intended to link the Ethiopian diaspora with the Ethiopian
health system through opening a center for youth in Addis Ababa to increase the
knowledge of reproductive health (RH), family planning (FP) and HIV/AIDS among youth.
The center offers RH, FP, and HIV/AIDS educational sessions, trains peer educators,
and provides skills building and counseling services to the youth.
The center served as a resource center for the youth where youth can access the
internet or use the center as a library and research area.
While serving the youth, this project will coordinate diaspora initiatives and mobilize
monetary and intellectual resources from diaspora community. It also facilitates
lectureship, internship and other capacity-building activities to the youth and
country at large from Diaspora experts.
P2P invites volunteer experts in different disciplines to get involved in the project
and contribute for all rounded development of youth in Ethiopia.
